1. About Farms Around

What is Farms Around?

Farms Around is the free-to-use, multilingual map for discovering local food across Europe: farm shops, local food shops, vending machines, pick-your-own farms and other places where you buy food and drink directly from the producer.

Is Farms Around free?

Yes. The map is free to use for visitors. Producers can create a free listing or choose one of two paid profile options. See the For farmers page.

How do you make money?

Through producers’ paid profiles. We use that income to keep improving the map, make locations easier to find and get more people enthusiastic about local food.

Do you show ads?

No. Farms Around is free of third-party ads and ad tracking. For statistics we use cookieless, anonymous analytics.

Who is behind Farms Around?

Farms Around was founded by Olga and Niels Sprangers. Olga has visited more than 900 farm shops in Europe; Niels joined for more than 500 of them. Read more on the About Farms Around page.

Which countries are you active in?

The map is set up for Europe. We’ve actively started in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and France. You can add locations in the EU, the UK, Norway and Switzerland.

How do locations get onto the map?

Owners can submit their place and visitors can add locations. We check the details before they appear on the map.

Why can visitors add locations too?

A growing European map of farm shops is something we can only build with the community’s help. Farmers are busy, and updating online profiles isn’t their top priority. With input from visitors we keep the map more complete and up to date. We review every submission before it’s published.

Which locations are allowed on Farms Around?

Allowed (welcome on the map)

  • Farm shops that sell their own products (vegetables, fruit, dairy, meat, eggs, etc.)
  • Regional shops that mainly offer products from farmers and producers in the region
  • Pick-your-own and CSA locations (Community Supported Agriculture) with a public sales point
  • Farm vending machines / milk taps offering products from the farm itself
  • Local producers of food or drink (e.g. cheesemaker, winemaker, brewer, beekeeper)

Not allowed

  • Temporary or occasional stalls that are open only a few days a year
  • Supermarkets and delicatessens without a clear focus on local/regional products
  • Bakeries or other similar shops (even if they source locally)

Not allowed at this time

  • CSA without a public sales point
  • Farms with online sales only (without a physical location)
  • Farm shops accessible to members only

Additional criteria

  • Locations must be in the EU, the UK, Norway or Switzerland.
  • Products only count as local if they are produced within about 50 km of the location.
  • Where possible, we verify new locations via their own website, social media or Google Business Profile.
Do you sell products yourselves?

No. We provide visibility for local producers and shops. We don’t sell products.

2. Map, search and filters

How do I find locations near me?

It’s easy: browse the map. You can click ‘Centre my location’ and apply various filters, such as specific products, organic farming methods or facilities.

Can I mark locations as visited?

Yes, using the button in the corner of the pop-up window. That way you keep track of the places you’ve visited.

Why are there so few locations in my area?

This may be because no one has added locations in your region yet — you could be the first! We launched this new website in September 2025 and it takes time to map more and more farm shops across Europe. It may also be that there simply aren’t many in your region. Check whether a filter is active. In highly urban areas, fewer locations are usually available.

Is the information always up to date?

We actively maintain the map. Our team reviews changes, and automated signals from public sources (such as a location’s own website, its Google Business Profile and its social media) help us spot changes; we check those before we adjust anything. Even so, things can change: opening hours vary, locations close and many farms sell seasonal products. See information that’s incorrect? Report it via our website and we’ll update it as soon as possible.

Does the site work on mobile?

Yes, Farms Around is mobile-friendly.

3. Visiting and adding farms

Do I need to contact a farm before I visit?

Often not. Check the opening hours on our website, but keep in mind that they can change. No opening hours listed? Then it’s best to contact the farm directly.

Is buying at the farm cheaper?

That varies per producer. Price, freshness, taste and production method can vary. Look at the profile and ask the producer what matters to you.

Which payment methods can I expect?

That varies per location: cash, debit card, contactless or QR payments. If the payment options are known, they’re shown in the pop-up window.

Where do I find opening hours?

In the pop-up on the map and, if available, on the location’s detail page. Both also show payment options and notes about the season.

How can I add a location that isn't on the map yet?

Click the + button (mobile) or ‘Add location’ (desktop). Tip: add the location while you’re there and use ‘Find my location’ to fill in the address. It only takes a few minutes.

What if I find a location that doesn't belong on the map?

Click ‘Report incorrect information’. We’ll review the report and correct it as soon as possible.

4. Account, privacy and notifications

Do I need an account?

No for viewing the map. Yes for liking locations, adding locations and marking them as visited.

How do you use my location data?

Only with permission: to zoom in on your location and find your location on the map when you add a location. See our privacy policy.

How can I edit or delete my account?

You can request account deletion via ‘My profile’. If you have an active subscription, we’ll first help you end it correctly. Data we’re legally required to keep, such as certain invoice details, we keep only for as long as required.

Can I turn off emails or notifications?

Yes, change your preferences in ‘My profile’.

5. For owners and farmers

How do I add my location?

Create an account (Owner role), click ‘Add location’, choose a listing or profile (Free, Lite or Full), and fill in your address, opening hours and products. Photos come with a paid profile.

My location is already shown. How can I claim it?

Log in with your profile set to Owner. Click your location on the map; you’ll then see an ‘Activate’ button. That lets you claim the location and add extra information.

Can I manage multiple locations?

Yes, use ‘My locations’ in the dashboard.

How can I update opening hours, photos or products?

Under ‘My locations’. You can change opening hours, products and (with a paid profile) photos and other information.

What does a paid profile include?

With a paid profile (Lite or Full) you get more visibility and more options: photos, detailed product information, a choice of map icons and increased visibility. Only Full also includes information about you as the owner and your facilities. Your own multilingual page already comes with the free listing. See the comparison on the For farmers page.

6. Profiles and billing

Which profile options are available?

Besides the free listing there are two paid profiles: Lite and Full, with more visibility and features. You’ll find the details on the For farmers page.

Are prices shown per month or per year?

We show annual prices. For customers in the EU, prices include VAT.

How can I upgrade or downgrade?

Go to ‘My locations’, then ‘Change profile’. Changes take effect from the next billing period.

Which payment methods do you support?

Payments run through Stripe. At the moment you can pay with iDEAL, Bancontact and card (with Link).

How are renewals charged?

Subscriptions renew automatically. For iDEAL and Bancontact, Stripe sets up a SEPA Direct Debit for this; your card is charged automatically at renewal. You’ll receive a notification 30 days in advance. You can cancel at any time; your profile stays active until the end of the paid period. There is no refund for the paid period.

Do I have to approve every payment?

No. After the first payment, renewals are collected automatically (via SEPA Direct Debit for iDEAL and Bancontact, or via your card). You always receive an invoice by email.

Can I change my payment method later?

Yes, go to ‘My locations’, then ‘Change payment details’ to update your information in Stripe.

What happens if my payment fails?

Stripe retries automatically. If it doesn’t work, you’ll receive an email with a link to update your payment method. If the payment isn’t completed in time, the extra features are paused until the payment succeeds.

Do you store my payment details?

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We don’t keep full card or bank details on our servers.

Do I get an invoice?

Yes, automatically by email. You’ll also find your invoices under ‘My locations’.

7. Data, photos and rights

Can I upload photos?

Owners with a paid profile can upload photos, but only their own photos or photos they have permission to use. Do not upload copyrighted images belonging to others.

Which photo format works best?

Horizontal images with a ratio of about 6:5 display nicely. Crop them before uploading so nothing important is cut off.

How do I upload good-quality photos?
  • Take photos in daylight for natural colours.
  • Clean the glass on your phone camera.
  • Show the entrance or stall so visitors recognise the place.
  • Highlight your products (cheese, vegetables, bottles, etc.).
  • Make sure photos are sharp: hold the camera still or use a tripod.
  • Avoid people, unless you have their permission.
How do you handle incorrect data?

Use ‘Report incorrect information’. We’ll check and correct it.

Can I request data deletion?

Yes, contact us to request deletion.

Do you use stars and text reviews?

No. We use likes (hearts) for simple, positive feedback.

8. Technology and support

The site is slow or shows an error — what now?

Refresh the page or try another browser. Still having issues? Contact us with the page link and a short description.

Do you use cookies?

We only use functional cookies and no marketing cookies. For statistics we use cookieless, anonymous analytics (Plausible). That’s why you don’t see a cookie banner. Social login providers and Stripe only place cookies after you click log in or pay.

Do you have an app?

Not yet. The website works well on mobile devices.

Which languages are supported?

Dutch, English, German and French. Use the language switcher in the menu.

How do I enable ‘Find my location’ on my device?
