A search for camembert straight from the farm in Normandy grew into a free multilingual map that helps tens of thousands of people find local producers every month. At home, on the road and on holiday.
On Farms Around, you can discover farm shops, local food stores, milk vending machines, farm vending machines, pick-your-own farms and other places to buy local products — often directly from farmers and local makers. Across the Netherlands and in a growing number of European regions. Special places, great products and honest local food.
Our goal is simple: to make finding your way to a farm as easy as finding your way to the supermarket.
From a ‘Fromage fermier’ sign to a European map

The idea for Farms Around began in 2018 during a family trip through Normandy. We were looking for camembert straight from the farm, but finding it was surprisingly difficult. Information online was out of date, and some places shown in navigation apps did not sell anything at all, or no longer existed.
We drove around looking for signs that said ‘Produits locaux’ and ‘Fromage fermier’. It made us wonder: why is it so difficult to find local producers? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they were all on one map?
In February 2022, Olga launched the Farms Around Instagram account, sharing stories about farm shops and local producers. More and more followers asked for an overview of the places she had visited. The first map went live in spring 2024, with around 300 locations, all personally visited and added by Olga.
In September 2025, we launched a completely redesigned Farms Around: multilingual, easy to use and built as a community-powered map. Since then, visitors and owners have been able to add locations and submit updates themselves. The map has grown from around 500 locations at that launch to more than 1,300 today, with an average of around 30 new locations added each week in August 2026. Together, we are filling the map region by region and country by country.
What makes Farms Around different

There are other places to search for farm shops. What sets Farms Around apart is the combination of:
- European and multilingual. We bring places to buy local food in several European countries together on one map, available in Dutch, English, German and French. The same categories and filters work everywhere, so searching in France is just as straightforward as searching in the Netherlands.
- Useful information, added by people. Every location on Farms Around has been added by an owner, a visitor or by us. We provide detailed information, from products and opening hours to photos, facilities, production methods and the producer’s story.
- We review every location ourselves. We check new locations and suggested updates before they appear on the map.
- An active community. More than 50,000 people follow us on Instagram and TikTok. Visitors, farmers and shop owners suggest new places and help keep the information up to date.
- No third-party advertising. There are no third-party ads or advertising trackers on the map or website. We use anonymous, cookie-free analytics for our statistics.
- Useful on the go. The map works in your browser, including on your phone. From every location, you can start directions in Google Maps straight away.
- First-hand experience. We have been visiting farm shops and other local outlets across Europe since 2018. Olga has now visited almost 1,000 of them, around 500 together with Niels. That experience has taught us exactly what information people need to discover a farm shop or find a particular regional product.
Farms Around is more than a map. Through our tips and stories, regional guides and events calendar, we help you experience local food for yourself.
How we keep the map reliable
Good information is the foundation of Farms Around. Many online directories are automatically built from public data. We take a different approach: every location on our map has been added by a person and reviewed by us before we publish it.
Visitors and owners can add a new location or submit an update. Before the information appears on the map, we review it. We check new locations and updates almost every day.
The community stays involved after publication too. Owners can maintain their profiles, and visitors can easily report incorrect information. Changes to a location’s website, Google Business Profile or social media give us additional signals.
Some regions on the map are still developing. We are open about that. Together with local producers, visitors and partners, we make the map more complete every day.
The people behind Farms Around
Farms Around was founded by Olga and Niels Sprangers. We combine our love of local food and discovering special places with marketing, storytelling and technology.

co-founder, platform & map
Olga Sprangers — co-founder, marketing, content and community. Olga started Farms Around as an Instagram account and shares the stories of farmers, makers and farm shops. She has now visited almost 1,000 farm shops and other local outlets across Europe.
“Farmers regularly tell us that new customers found them through Farms Around. Followers tell us they have discovered special places thanks to the map. I still love hearing that. Even after visiting almost 1,000 locations, I enjoy every new discovery.”
Niels Sprangers — co-founder, platform, technology and map. Niels develops the platform and interactive map behind Farms Around. He visited around 500 of those locations with Olga and saw first-hand what information visitors need to actually find and visit a producer.
That combination makes Farms Around so useful: we know the places behind the pins on the map, and we build the technology that makes them easy for everyone to find.
